The Community Health Express is our mobile unit that provides medical and dental services to children in 17 schools in Aiken County and 4 schools in Edgefield County. The Community Health Express team strives to make our patients feel comfortable and at home. Our highly-trained medical and dental staff offers a wide range of dental services and limited medical services. We are committed to providing children with the best care possible in a setting that is convenient, comfortable, and state-of-the-art.
Medical Care for Children
The Community Health Express team is equipped and staffed to provide well-child visits. If additional medical attention is needed, a member of the mobile unit staff will let you know of the medical concern and recommend next steps. The school nurse will also be notified. If no problems are noted, a form indicating what was done during the visit will be sent home with your child or mailed. There may be
times, however, where a visit to the health center is necessary. The staff will help you determine if a visit to the health center is the best option to receive additional, appropriate care.
Dental Care for Children
The Community Health Express is equipped and staffed to provide oral healthcare services. Available services include basic dental screenings, oral prophylaxis, fluoride applications, sealants, diagnostic screenings, fillings, and periodontal therapies. The staff will take a sensitive and compassionate approach to oral healthcare and seek to provide pain-free dental care services. If additional oral healthcare is needed, a member of the mobile unit staff will let you know of the oral healthcare concern and recommend next steps. The school nurse will also be notified. If no problems are noted, a form indicating what was done during the visit will be sent home with your child or mailed.
Outreach & Enrollment
Our Outreach & Enrollment department assists individuals needing insurance through the Affordable Care Act. The Outreach staff can also assist with completing enrollment paperwork. Please contact the Director of Outreach at 803-380-7013.
Frequently Asked Questions
How will my child enroll for oral and medical services provided on the mobile unit?
You can stop by the front office at your school or visit any of the health center locations to pick up an enrollment forms. Complete the enrollment forms and return to the school or health center locations as soon as possible.
How will my child schedule an appointment?
Once the enrollment form is completed, your child will be scheduled by a Rural Health Services staff member. Make sure you have completed all necessary paperwork before your child’s appointment. The Rural Health Services staff will notify the school of your child’s appointment time in advance.
Who do I call if I have questions before or after my child’s appointment?
When you have questions regarding the services provided to your child on the mobile unit, call a mobile unit staff member at 803-380-7000. They will work with you to get your questions answered.
How will my child come to the mobile unit?
The mobile unit will be parked on school grounds. The front office staff at the school will call for your child to meet the mobile unit staff member in the front office of the school. A member of the mobile unit team will then walk your child over to the unit and back to the front office of the school building when the appointment is completed.
